We go beyond traditional approaches—recognizing that massage therapy supports not only physical health but also emotional and mental well-being. Many of our clients find massage invaluable for managing stress, anxiety, and even symptoms of depression or PTSD, contributing to a holistic path toward better health.

Who are RMTs?

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are healthcare experts with education in the evaluation and treatment of soft tissue through therapeutic massage. Massage therapists use a mixture of Swedish massage, myofascial release, joint mobilization, trigger point release therapy, deep tissue therapy, neuromuscular therapy, and rehabilitation workout to provide an individualized  massage therapy for their patients.

How Massage Therapy Supports Pain Relief, Healing, and Overall Well-Being

RMTs can help decrease acute and chronic pain, improve circulation, reduce anxiety and stress, support better sleep, and decrease physical inflammation, benefits that are especially noticeable during recovery from injury, pregnancy, or periods of high stress.

Massage therapy is also known to reduce healing time for nerve-related conditions such as sciatica, thoracic outlet syndrome, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Headaches remain one of the most common reasons clients seek our care. Whether you experience chronic migraines, tension headaches from screen time, or cluster headaches, our RMTs will help determine the root cause and offer effective relief.

Massage Therapy Techniques

Below is an outline of the various massage therapy techniques used by our massage therapists to optimize your treatment plan. Click on the name to read more.

Swedish massage

This gentle form of massage utilizes lengthy strokes, acupressure, intense circular movements, vibrations, and drumming. It helps you feel relaxed and energized for the rest of your day. Just the therapy you need if you’re anxious, stressed, or just need a break.

Deep tissue massage Burnaby

Deep tissue massage therapy utilizes more powerful strokes to target deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It’s usually used to help with muscle injury or “tight” muscles.

Sports massage

This is a mixture of both Swedish and deep tissue massage to improve athletic performance and prevent injury. This type of massage is applicable to elite level athletes and active individuals.

Trigger point massage

This massage centers on areas of taut muscle fibers that can develop in your muscles injury or overdoing an exercise. It provides localized pressure over the taut muscle band to cause a twitch response and subsequent trigger point release.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What conditions can massage therapy help with?

Massage therapy can assist in decreasing acute and chronic pain, improving overall health, reducing anxiety and stress, supporting sleep, and decreasing physical inflammation. It can also reduce healing time for nerve-related conditions such as sciatica, thoracic outlet syndrome, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

2. What types of massage techniques are offered?

The clinic offers various massage techniques, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, and trigger point massage. Each technique is tailored to meet individual patient needs.

3. What should I expect during a massage therapy session?

During a typical 60-minute session, you may choose to undress to your comfort level or wear loose clothing. You’ll lie on a table covered with a sheet, and the therapist will ensure your privacy. They will assess your problem areas and determine the most effective treatment plan, possibly using oils or creams to reduce skin friction. Communication about pressure levels and comfort is encouraged throughout the session.

4. Who are the Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) at Optimal Health Collective?

RMTs are healthcare professionals educated in evaluating and treating soft tissue through therapeutic massage. They employ a combination of techniques to provide individualized massage therapy tailored to each patient’s needs.

5. How does massage therapy support overall well-being?

Massage therapy supports overall well-being by relieving muscle tension, reducing stress, improving sleep quality, and enhancing circulation. It also aids in decreasing physical inflammation and can contribute to faster recovery from injuries.

What you can expect during a massage?

In a typical massage therapy session (about 60 minutes long), you unclothe or wear baggy clothing. Unclothe only to the point that you’re comfortable. You will lie on a table and cover yourself with a sheet. Your massage therapist will ensure privacy by leaving the room before and after your massage. Once you are on the table, they will palpate and assess the areas you have indicated as your “problem areas” and determine the most effective treatment plan (i.e. type of massage used and amount of pressure required to achieve a specific treatment outcome).

Your massage therapist may use oil or cream to decrease friction on your skin (i.e. make it more comfortable for you). Tell your massage therapist if you might be sensitive to any particular oils/scents.

If a massage therapist is applying too much pressure, ask for gentler pressure. If they aren’t applying enough pressure, ask for more firm pressure. The benefit of massage therapy is that it can be tailored to your wants and needs. Don’t be shy to let them know what you like and don’t like! If it’s too painful, it’s not worth “pushing through it” – it stresses the body out more and may cause more tightness in the muscles.
